I got tin plates/cups for everyone and we’re going to make hobo packets for dinner. I thought of a ‘dressup like a camper’ game where they would have a sack of random clothes like plaid shirts, fake mustaches, and big old jeans. They would have to get everything in the bag put on and the first one finished would get their picture taken. But what else can I do so the kids have a camping theme activity ?

there is always duck duck goose. I like the ghost story idea also.

Or you can put different items in brown paper bags number them and close them up tight.

I was looking into getting the Kelty Grand 2 Mesa as a tent but being 6’5 I was believing that it would be to small. So I’m now looking at the Kelty Teton 2 as its bigger. But the fly design from the pictures of it look like theres a big gap on the side of the tent. For me thats a really big no. I need a tent that the fly covers the entire tent. So I was wondering if the fly actually goes all the way down or if it actually does leave that big of a gap on the side? Or if you think a 6’5” person can fit in the Kelty Mesa 2 Grand. Im just worried that being in a sleeping bag my head/feet would touch the wall of the tent.

i want to take my family camping and fishing for a week but my wife doesnt think she can last a whole week tent camping has any one rented a cabin before? how much did it cost and what did they come with?

You can expect to pay from $50 per night up. And usually have to bring your own bedding and kitchen supplies.

An alternative is renting a RV. Assuming your not going to drive an inordinate amount of miles.

I’m looking at a tent on ebay from the camping equipment company and I want to know if they are good tents of if I should save my money. We do a fair bit of family camping in the summer and want a tent that is fairly easy to set up and will stand up to a major rain.

I would say….ebay is the wrong choice for something like a tent…your tent can last you forever…it is your shelter and home while you camp and it is worth finding one you will hold onto.

Depending on where you live, there are all kinds of options that wont break your wallet. Escort is one, coleman is another (they sell them at Canadian Tire in Canada….

I bought one years and years ago and even though it was inexpensive, it’s lasted…and I am a total gear head, I probably would have paid $2000 for one if I could have afforded it….but I got an escort for summer camping and I am happy with it.

and here is a little camping life saver I was taught….get lots of tarps, and hook em up in the trees with bungee cords…this makes the tarps float up and it’s super easy….I have about 12 tarps and keep my bungees in a bucket (that I end up using for water once I am set up) and have covered my whole campsite with them (just because I love building my shelters….love love)

So…go out and shop around, love your tent it’s worth it for you and your family. My dad had an old canvas one that I still remember so fondly.

I bought a camping tent, the zip up kind and I was just wonderin can I put it up and chill in it while I’m at the beach or at a park like central park??

Can I just ask why you’d go to the beach and put up a tent? Seems like that kinda defeats the purpose of why you go to the beach.

i want a nice light tent for backpacking through central america. 2 person so it can fit me and my backpack. do you recommend any specific brands or specific tents that you have used??
i have a kelty pack, and that has served me well.

i use a kelty crestone 1 as a solo tent… i think a crestone 2 will do the job fine… considering the weather in central america is somewhat the same here in the philippines. HTH
